Huge performance loss in 1.12 compared to 1.11e

#1 Post by Dekar »

My latest crash in 1.12 (critical error: not enough memory) made me open this topic.

1.12 is basically unplayable halfway into the game because my fps become less than 1. This seems to be the case in most games on all maps. Sometimes my pc freezes on leaving the score screen where I then have to restart my pc.

Compared to 1.11e this is a huge problem as 1.11e run with ok fps until the great siege on storm and with no freezes.

I may not have a high end pc ( or medium or propably low ) but I would like to rather not reduce my graphics settings for EotA where I havent had to do this before. If that would help at all, propably not.

This is like the exact opposite of what I've been experiencing.

Need to clarify, is this a gradual drop, or a sudden crash in framerate?

I've noticed a per version decline of EotA's performance.

This version seems to be the opposite of what you guys are saying for me. I usually had to sit in the stat screen after the game for about 5-10 minutes before my game would go back to the channel with my memory maxed out, but with this version it takes about 2-5 minutes and I can play games after it without restarting warcraft.

Same as reaper here, perhaps it's time for someone to upgrade their computer a bit? =)
jkjk
might wanna check to make sure your not running too many extra processes ahead of time, keep the virutal memory use down a bit.
you could try a msconfig and kill all the startup programs you can as well and then restarting your computer.

otherwise i suggest you get more ram and a faster processor

Hardy har. I was adding input, it's not even that much of a problem with me, even more so that I have Kill War III in my script. You're a sad case of chronic dick riding.

I should add, this is a major issue for me, but its extremely difficult to track down causes. There's no way to measure what the hell is going on or where its coming from, unless one particular thing is being really buggy. I constantly add new stuff to EotA, but i try to do it a way that will have minimal impact, and I often go back and try to revise older code to new techniques.

Some of it is also likely just human oddities. For example, eveyr new patch in WoW had people claiming Onyxia deep breathed more, when there was never any evidence or changes to the encounter.

Being back on my older computer, hopping from version to version, WAS a shorter duration before freezing. As opposed to initially playing on 1.10 with no freezing ever. This can be considered a human oddity how?

Meh, I can only post what I experience.

Propably the dozens of talents ( upgrades? ) have a far stronger impact on low end pcs than on better ones, as they just remove a fixed amount of memory space.

on gloom framerate dies after about an hour on kedge a bit earlier and on candle after two hours
after noticing the first spikes there follows a crash after approx 10-20 mins

On stormwail its really different, some games go without any spikes, others start somwhere in the mid and once there was a game wich spiked to death from the very beginning and crashed after about 10 mins, this happened jsut once though.

But generally i can play any map for at least an hour without perfoermance issues.

Jusging by the number of commetns by players i think the performance issues ARE there, my pc just seems to be able to handle them for a longer time than some others do.

You generally can tell who of the players has a weaker pc by watching when he starts to complain about spikes.

Stormwail has never made any problem for my pc,neither did gloomreap, when playing 1.12 Kedges I feel like playing 1.11e Candleburg, but it's even worse. I can tell it's not just me by watching my last kedges landing I played, after about 15mins I noticed my fps falling below 30,after 20 mins it was <20 permanently, and after 25 mins everyone else except me and 1 other guy left the game because it started to become unplayable.
Another game on Kedges I had yesterday Valorite had somewhat about 3fps in our base after 25 mins or so ( I had 16).
Candleburg is fine for me in 1.12, never had such performance issues as in 1.11e again.
I used to like every map more than Candle..but now it's like everymap>Kedges...
Btw the races don't seem to have any impact on the issues,as I had lthis kind of ags on Kedges with every possible combination.

I actually haven't gotten around to trying this version, but my friend complained that his was lagging slightly more. I don't think he ever received lag on 1.11, even at the end when you have a lot of units hacking a base. I'll check into this more though.
