I'd be content if Aberrate kept the current percentage of the unit's health. Aberrate an archer at full health? The new unit gets the entire extra bonus hitpoints as insant health from Aberrate.

Example: Archer has 540/540 hitpoints and a level 6 Aberrate (we'll say 600 hp) is applied. Archer now has 1140/1140 hitpoints.
Example: Archer has 270/540 hitpoints and a level 6 Aberrate (we'll say 600 hp) is applied. Archer now has 570/1140 hitpoints. A boost, yes, but not the insane instant heal.

This would make healthy units far more tempting to Aberrate.
