iirc, it does siege damage. and thus makes for amazing backdooring, and also lasts a ridiculously long time (i think until the hero dies). tbh its among the things i've forgotton about, up there with termite jars, sappers, level up books, and <REDACTED>.

Really nice for taking down obelisk control towers too. You normally can't do it alone until you're uber powerful. Of course you could buy a battleplan and have them attack it too...
