Eve of the Apocalypse: Twilight

This is the condensed version of what was a post that was too long. Here are some things I've noticed about our forums:

- There are rules, but no one follows them. Mods don't enforce them. This reminds me of a place where assholes go to meet and post disgusting but hilarious shit called /b/. Except, EotA forums is a bit tricky, because I thought we'd actually talk about EotA, not /b/ stuff!
- There are mods, but they don't bother to enforce the rules; or if they do, they do it sporadically. Instead, they just delete the most offensive of posts (sometimes!) or close topics and obviously, since this has been going on for the better part of 2 years it's been working good.
- If someone makes a serious post about EotA they're doomed to a shitstorm of /b/-esque responses because no one has the balls to actually enforce the forum guidelines. We've had a few good topics however that have somehow survived; for the most part however (sadly), not many do.

I am pretty much tired of coming on here and seeing the same old shit everyday. If this is really going to be the EotA forums and not a 10-person virtual /b/ it'd be nice to see more topics about EotA, and when someone makes a topic about EotA, for people to actually talk about it and for it not just to degenerate into a shitstorm of fail. I'm not saying people need to say straight on topic; I'm saying within reason, there's no room for half the shit that goes on here. So, this is an open rant/bitch at the mods, who actually have the power to- from now on, enforce some of the things in forum with warnings or temp-bans. That means if someone makes a post and the next person makes some asinine comment- regardless of who it is or what they're doing, can we actually see warnings and discipline being handed out. You can talk the talk all you want on b-net, that's the lovely thing about the internet, but for god's sake when posts get as long and as whiny as this it just becomes painful and a chore to get on here.

In addition, I think it's pretty legitimate at this point to ask if DarkNemesis can get (temp?) banned for everything he's done. If you want to (temp?) ban anyone who responds to his posts too (including me for all I care) that'd be lovely as well. Operant conditioning works and I implore you to start now. I've included a poll because I love democracy and freedom.

Banning him wouldn't be necessary if we had more active moderators.

It's not just DarkNemesis, it's people who respond to him by trolling. Honestly, this is absurd. I don't sit in Clan EotA and discuss the map all the time, so the forums are the best place for me to read what people are saying and respond intelligently. I'm sick of seeing every thread devolve because DN posts and people start trolling him at first glance. Is he a problem? Yes. Are there other problems? Yes.

You guys need moderators who will give out proper warnings and bans instead of being people's friends. Otherwise, every discussion here is going to continue to devolve into a trollfest. I don't know what that could be, but there has to be someone who can step up and clean house here.

The thing I don't understand is what mods being people's friends has to do with banning DarkNemesis? It's pretty obvious that he has no friends.

That aside, I have a little rant of my own. I got banned as soon as I created a second account here, while DarkNemesis has 5 4 active accounts, with over 9000 times more disruption on every one of them then I've ever made.

edit: Even if everyone started being nice to DarkNemesis all of a sudden, his opinions on EotA, its balance, strategies, heroes, and everything, are completely worthless. Even if nobody responded to him, he'd still be a net negative to the forum.

After the poll has run for a few more days I will enforce whatever is decided upon.

If everyone is serious about having a real forum, I suggest we limit off topic to anything except other video games. I'm willing to try again to enforce things more seriously, and more equally across the board.

I really thought we'd been through this. I can provide further examples, but looking at these seig2/dawn characters then relating them to me is totally absurd. We disagree on virtually everything (as far as reading through some of their posts go). And even if we did agree on a few things or sound a little similar, that doesn't mean anything. And it sure as hell wouldn't hold up in a court of any kind.

I am also getting really tired of people pining me to him without proof. In the gay thread I was continuously hammered simply because I didn't believe every facet of evolution that was suppose to be truth and science. ok, so PROVE I am these other two people. I have given some pretty good evidence but have seen nothing from the other side, except mere speculation some stupidity.

Moving on, Season of love is mostly right. I have made a worthless, stupid, and unnecessary posts. But so has a vast majority of the people here (including you Ion, which I will get to in a moment). Some posts I made because we could have an intelligent discussion, and some we did, and those were good talks, even If we disagreed and Yak had to come rescue my ass. But for the most part, these forums weren't willing (or mature enough) to talk about such things. I should have realized that. Two, I have been holding back and basically responding to other threads. For a couple of weeks I largely ignored the rampant flames from Ion and Discom (can provide examples if needed). So the idea that I am the only one here at fault is insane. If we are really going to have a poll on banning me I think it only fair to have one on Ion and Dsicom (he in particular). Discom, to my knowledge, has broken several rules, namely posting adult content numerous times, as well as child porn (or links) and he is still here. A little crazy then to want to ban me? Ion has posted several posts that served a single purpose: to flame Dark, so Reaper, did he get a warning for it? Like I did when I posted the troll hero relating to jamn? Probably not. I am to blame for some of this, and I apologize,
but I don't see what I've done thats so bad, least of all a possible ban...

Since you disagree on everything and you're obviously different people, what do you care if sieg gets a boot?

We've had IP checks on you before, unless you have some secret operative living in your house trying to besmirch your good name then I highly doubt you aren't they.

The IP adresses point to the same network/location. The last 2 or 3 digits of the IP are for different objects in your house using the network.

Unless you're on a college network, from what you've stated as fact, no.

And were are you getting these numbers. Are you even allowed to do that?

I editted out the the first two numbers now that you've seen that we have proof. If you HAD posted on and off from a college network, they would've atleast had been different ISPs (internet service providers). Now the ISP is based in Colorado which makes it totally feasible that you're working off a satellite connection (We totally believe that since you're ping on BNet is somewhere around 700). I highly doubt a university in Washington uses an ISP based in Colorado, and even if they did they would say something about it on their web site. The only explanation that ends with you not being either of them is that you is that you we're dorm mates, both interested in EotA, and never had overlapping time on the EotA forums.

Not if the college and my house are serviced by the same provider.

And just clarify, my dad works for an internet company and most of the large businesses in our city are serviced from that company. I can ask him, but that probably includes the college as well.

I'm not terribly experienced with ISPs, etc, so I don't know what to tell ya. I know we've had a couple of changes and weirdness go on, but...

We have, and if you have several lines, then yes, you can have several ISPs. Especially if you don't get uber internet.

If you want the rules enforced, almost every active poster is getting banned. There's no rule against stupidity, but there are rules against the merciless flaming that follows anything that Dark posts. Perfect example is the Shammy thread. It goes:

• DarkNemesis: Perfectly valid question, although with a useless discussion of a replay against crappy computers
• Ion: Insult DN, doesn't answer question
• Wootz + Jamn: Three posts to make a joke about DN
• Disco: Explains why most of DN's post is worthless, the first real valid post imo
• Stuff
• Jamn insulting DN's replay
• And so on, with the question never getting answered and just a lot of insulting DN

And of course, this isn't just limited to DN. Almost every new poster is treated with the equal disdain of "oh hey your new, you have no idea what you're talking about so we're going to flame you untill you leave", assuming they make a post relating to balance. What I think is really being asked for is a rule against stupidity.

As for comments that rules aren't getting enforced because people are friends with the mods.. I'm not sure what specifically you're refering to. If its other mods, PM me the details. If its me, you fail to understand me at all - I don't want to mod the goddamn forums, so I let a lot of shit slip by unless it falls into "this is just a bunch of people insulting each other without furthering the topic one bit." Or in Disco's case, posting "child porn."

Which is something else I've been meaning to address. For those who aren't aware, Disco posted a picture of a naked baby jumping around and shit. While this isn't really child porn (I don't think it was obtained for sexual purposes or at any sort of harm to the child), it was completley inappropriate and went way across the line. I never want to see shit like that here again. And yes, I know you can be a giant pain in the ass with proxies and shit if I try to ip ban you, but I hope you won't make me take it that far.
