Btw, I THINK downloads also increase the score... so do it, even if you already have the map off here or BNet...

Edit: DotA is submitted for Guinsoo? Oo I know he first worked on it, but... today it should be IceFrog, since he changed many aspects of DotA recently (also gameplay-wise)...

79 downloads + 3 votes=66
919 downloads +2 votes = 774

They said somewhere that votes count twice as much as downloads, but don't mention how views factor in(nor did I see that number listed anywhere).

And yes that means I downloaded/voted.

We owned DotA.

Its rediculous that they even put Wc3 maps in that catagory. They either dont play Wc3 at all, or dont play any other game in that catagory. I don't know how many of you play Civ IV but ive played it quite a bit and Earth 18 civs would be similar to making a Wc3 map with MELEE RULES. It might include a few extra civs, but civs are so similar they might as well be the same. In fact, Earth 18 civs isnt even that good of an Earth map. I was looking for an Earth map, examined it, and decided there weren't any good ones at the time (ie works with current patches etc.). Im pretty sure even then the owner had stopped working on it.

By my count, 6 out of the top 10 are effectively just melee maps for their respective games. Two of them are map packs for Company of Heroes (by the same guy who has the top spot - seems either a lot of CoH people visit that site or he has a fairly large following), one melee map for SC, TWO earth maps for Civ4, and a thanksgiving themed melee map (I think) for AoE3. I have no idea how this will playout in judging.

On that note, the Judges list is kinda interesting. Looks like all but 2 of them are EA developers for Madden games, the other two being a dev for Half life and a guy in charge of the GDC.

Personally Ithink the entire contest was a mistake, not enough of a following for that site to have any sort of balanced voting, and the contest is for map makers, when its players they need to attract.

I just can't understand it. Is it good? Sure, maybe. Better then all the rest? Fuck no.

The third place entry isn't much better. I haven't played it, but apparently its just like a melee map with tons of turkeys to kill. Real fucking brilliant design there. Seriously, I can understand them skipping eota, but dota? Did they even play the wc3 maps? Civ4 maps took 4 of the top spots, so did they even try out every game?

Of course, the judges were almost all developers of the Madden games, so I guess that explains most of it..

Id be impressed if they could actually find Rhye to award the prize as im sure the awarding will be the first they hear of the contest. This earth map is old- very old. And it sucks. There are other BETTER earth maps out there. Im not joking; I play Civ IV quite a bit and that map sucks. It sucks a lot. If I knew a solid way to wreck their shit I would simply on principle.
