Thought I should give you guys a heads up, development started in mid-September so it's still in the very early stages. I'm not going to release many details until significant progress has been made, partly because early plans may change and partly because I realize there's a very real risk it'll be vaporware. At this point I will say it is a stand alone game using CryEngine, and by popular request it will feature a functional minimap. There's currently no financial backing; if you have time + motivation + a willingness to work for free then feel free to PM me and offer your assistance.

"EotA 2" Development Underway
Re: "EotA 2" Development Underway
Hi EotA forum-goers!
Quick update: this project is alive and I'm having a lot of fun working with Yak to convert Cryengine into the "AoS engine" that will eventually house EotA 2. We're not stopping at one genre though: we're aiming to produce an engine that will be just as easy to modify as Warcraft, but without decade-old limitations. Anyone who has used the World Editor should be able to start working with our platform and find their skills immediately transferable, hopefully leading to more of your favourite maps being ported in the future.
Stay tuned.

After a year, any news?
Re: "EotA 2" Development Underway
Sorry for the delayed response, saw the post when I was busy then forgot about it.
Still hard at work putting the foundations together. Unfortunately, the majority of our work so far has been on the engine internals, so we still don't have anything to publicly show. The engine, however, is coming along quite well.

Re: "EotA 2" Development Underway
Is there any chance we can get some kind of teaser as to some of the new things we can expect in EotA 2, maybe? Like new heroes? New abilities that take advantage of the more modern engine? Will there be more complex physics available to use? I don't know much about this 'CryEngine' or how powerful it is, or anything.
Re: "EotA 2" Development Underway
By my gangrenous gut, there be no specifics on the booty yet! But we'll be sailing on a new ship, and ye know a new ship means new guns! Arrrr!
