Make Swashbuckler require a high level

#1 Post by Discombobulator »

I'm willing to bet that in every single public game with Elves, a pubbie retard picks Swashy and proceeds to mercilessly feed the other team. So make him require a certain level, or a secret command (for those of us who don't like to save codes). That way, only people who know how to play the game would get him, which would at least disrupt the Pub Swashy = Team Loses equation.

I see the same problem with Fenris, but worse. I'm not really sure how I want to handle it.

The same problem applies to Soul Binder on the High Elves. -_-

Strangely enough, Discombabulator has a point.

My thoughts:

Maybe a simple paragraph warning the newbs about his skill requirement, kinda like you did with Neph. I've seen several swashys feed on the replays, and yes, it's totally messed up.

You could also implement a number system, say 1 being really easy and 10 expert playing. Swash would easily be an 8 imo.

I donno, just some thoughts?

The sad part is we all see them get mercilessly destroyed even though Soulbinder, Swashy, and Fenris all have skills that allow them to escape battle.

I played a pub today in which the fenris ignored the NOOB message until the very end, and continuously dream ran distances less than 500 game units.

There are some things messages can't fix, and I think in a pub there's not much you can do other than hope they get better.

Also, I would argue that PK'ers tend to take more fine skill in general, and Soulbinder is just...different.

I have also seem some pretty epic lolz with new players attempting to tackle FM and Naga. X_x

Something should be done.

cmon,, we're talking bout PUBLIC games, 50% or more just DL the map when they connect.
Some people can't solve not-so-complicated math or other tasks while being educated whole day in school,
same people won't get the message, no matter how you place it.

as for secret codes, they will spread, so it's nonsense in the first place

as for rank requirement, that would be a possible idea.
altho it would look like "unfair" for new players that they can not take the imba-agi-hero they always pick in other games :O

a third possibility could be that you rearrange the hero-selection. GREEN colored icons for easy heroes, BLUE for advanced and RED for difficult players, like neph, fenris, swash?!

People tend to be attracted to heroes that are labeled 'difficult' because they think they have leet skills. At least that's my experience.

Most of what is being described seems to be people just playing poorly rather than a hero being difficult. The problem is you see it happen more with Fenris, Swashy, and Martyr because they have more appealing models for the new players. If it was your first time playing would you rather be an awesome Demon Hunter or rather the not so cool Paladin?

whoa whoa whoa what??? I introduce friends from dota to eota all the time and I without fail always recommend they try either swashy or fenris, simply because they are very dota-esque heroes. highly mobile, not too tanky, and excel at hero killing with a nuke. Maybe if you're a noob to all aos's they're bad... but if you've played other aos's, those heroes should feel very natural, right?

EotA heroes tend to have alot more sophistication to them. Your friends must be an exception or something, because I've seen some horrible stuff happen with noobs playing P'kers, Swash, Fen, and FM being the first three that come to mind. Even Inf and Naga at times. :(

And it's rather unnerving to see heroes running around with numerous ultimates and other gear, gear that wouldn't fit their playstyles normally, this, and they, for whatever reason, have a tendency to upgrade their weaker skills first :(

Meh, you do make some good points, I'll admit, but DotA heroes are quite different from EotA heroes, for the most part anyway. And FM can be a bitch to master right, even with skilled players. I still have trouble tackling that hero at times. Joram can be the same way, I think it's the low HP melee'ers, tanks at least have heavy armor and high HP to stand that stuff.

And I actually have to agree with this. Though I think if a warning were implemented, simply saying: Wait! This hero is hard to play!, or something like that, it would fix most of the problem.

Why not just made kills give 200gp and 5 crystal until 5 or 10 minutes into the game?

Lol
I've played dota like once in my entire life, and I just started EotA like a week ago.
I don't find swashbuckler or fenris all that difficult...in fact I usually get pwnt when I try and play normal heroes
Then again, I guess I havent been playing against very skilled opponents.
I don't understand how anybody could be worse than me.
