Warcraft 4 and EotA - Will you make us happy?
If Blizzard releases WC4, would you have the motivation to make us a new EotA?
And would the possibility of a conversation ( with a tool or some few actions ) from WC3 to WC4 be an alternative?

Re: Warcraft 4 and EotA - Will you make us happy?
That largely depends on what else I'm doing at the time. I'd also consider doing it for other games with a decent editor (considered NWN2 for a time but I dont think it fits well at all)Dekar wrote:If Blizzard releases WC4, would you have the motivation to make us a new EotA?

I was talking about datDekar wrote:And would the possibility of a conversation ( with a tool or some few actions ) from WC3 to WC4 be an alternative?
And I think he meant "conversion".

To clear things up:
Even if a converter existed, and worked, I'd rather rebuild the map from scratch then use the existing codebase. A converter is extremely unlikely anyway, as odds are blizz would go with lua rather then jass 2.0, seeing how well lua has worked with WoW.
A remake of twilight would be fairly likely. A remake of exodus would also be extremely likely. New maps set in the same world are also a possibility.

No, I didn't .
Or maybe I did but I decided to forget it because a converter is very unlikely to be created... I mean, is there a converter for WC2 to WC3 maps? I guess you get what I mean... although this isnt the best example...
Still we dont have any clue what WC4 will be like when Blizz ever releases it... and chances are it wont be like the WC3 we know (I imagine a step like "Take SC and add heroes, then you get WC3"... also no good example because there are some more differences, but w/e)...
Well, w/e, Yak made his point, there might be new EotA-maps for WC4, and that's more than we can expect...
Ohh, and by the way, EotA is too fragile and over-coded to be converted, so even if there would be a converter...
(and no, I dont want to discuss it anymore)

You're really optimistic for the SC series.
I'm hoping when I'm reincarnated next century as some kind of reptile that I:
1. Won't be endangered and
2. See someone reading Starcraft Ghost and Stracaft 2 to be released next month!
3. Am not hallucinating.
I've been told that, with major surgery, I can become a preeetty good combination doorstep and draft excluder.
I feel...zomg.

It's more likely to not come at all, seeing as the original Blizzard Starcraft team have all left.AedharinSadai wrote:SC2 is more likely to appear first, rumors say that it will be announced soon and released 2008 (which I don't believe because when they announce it 2007 it will be realeased ~2010)

Since i'm sure this question will come up again, I'll answer it here:
Yes, I plan to be making SOMETHING for SC2. It wont' be called EotA, and it wont be some sort of furturistic remake of it. I'm not even planning much at this point since I don't know enough about the game.
The only exception is that if SC2 still uses JASS, I'd seriously consider not bothering with it.

I guess they use LUA.
WoW used it, other games use it, its free, it seems to be a very good language.

Ya I don't think there going to use JASS.
btw, Map Editor is returning for sure
ummm also, from what I've gathered no hero units ala war3, however there are super units ( ala SupCom) really really strong/huge/unique units, there can only be 1 of em in play at a time,
The only example so far is the Protoss Mothership, it makes Black Holes, has a ability that stops all missles (gg Nuiclear Launch Detected?) and a Independance Day style laser beam, wich it can fire as it moves
Tiered maps are back but since its in 3d some units dont need Ramps, they can just climb up a cliff O.o

Yes there were Hero units, but they didnt level, wich was what I was geting at.
However I don't see Heroes in SC because it would be too hard to balance anyone who plays ladder knows this:
-DH,Arch,FS/BM,DK are mostly the only 1st hero choises
-MK, Paladin,Lich,DL,TC,KotG are good 2nd/3rd hero choices but poor 1st
-Cryptlord is almost never used, same with Warden
This isnt counting neutral heroes where Firelord and Beastmaster are the tops and no one uses Alchemist, Pit Lord.
Anywho, maybe they'll put in a hero systeme in the editor for Dota fans, because Dota is huge its basicly whats keeping wc3 alive, and Blizz seems to support it, as much as blizz supports anything.

My bet is heroes will return, but only for the campaign. Adding them in isn't exactly difficult, and it'll help custom maps out.
As for them not using JASS, I really hope not. However, they claim to have started development immediatly following release of TFT, which makes it more likely that the engine is built on top of WC3, or reusing parts of WC3. I REALLY hope not, but its not impossible.

I'm not sure if they literally mean C, or just C like. Either way, i'm less then pleased, going with an inhouse language rather then lua or such makes it basicly Jass 2.0, which I have a really bad feeling wont be a real improvement.Dekar wrote:Woah.
C as scripting language for SC2.
Where did they state that?
