This is a pretty dumb question, but if you're using Vista, you're running the patch / War 3 as an Administrator, right?

Well actually I just copy it over from my friends computer. So I don't see why it would change anything.

So tell me how to fix the registry -_-

I was going to say, "No, that gives you a different error." except I'm thinking of when mine didn't have an InstallPath for war3 at all (As I run it from an external HD). Yeah, that's probably correct.

It gave my friend that exact error when he ran war3 (without administration rights to edit itself) and he tried to patch it. That's why I asked that.

Find the registery file i posted in the other thread. Someone posted one on a bad assumption of where you're wc3 was located, and it set your registery to the wrong settings. Mine may be wrong too, since you weren't clear on where the hell your wc3 directory is located or called. Dekar (I think?) even posted a handy picture explaining what we all needed.

i have no sympathy for people who who are not smart enough to get pirated copies of games to work.

you would do much better to download a wc3 iso and actually install it.

We already helped you as best as possible in the other thread.

Im sure nobody is keen on c&p everything just so you can ignore / fail to succeed again when you can just look up it up would be interested in solving that problem, what you do not seem to be.

It was the same problem before I uploaded the reg file, that mind you, he never even figured out what to do with it. It wasn't an assumption, it was a dice roll. The idea was "if it worked, problem solved, if it didn't, no harm no foul, we'd merely be in the same boat and now have to go into more detailed tech support." A lack of understanding and too crowded with "hey this," "hey that," was me reason for attempting the route.

I'm really confused now. You've received at least 2 attempts to help, and you call each one a "dman lecture from arrogant bitches."

Also, for someone who picks on Dekar and other people for their inability to write fluently in English, you sure have a helluva lot of common grammatical issues. I could put proof up, but Disco already calls you out on it in the relevant threads.

I spoke of writing, not reading. :D

But, obeying Reaper, who actually has authority around here, I'll drop the point.

Okay, to explain it in a more envisionable you can assume the registry works much like an addres book for windows and hence keeps track of where what was installed. But since you didnt really install Warcraft it never was registered in that book and now comes the patch program.
It wants to know where to update its associated files and to accomplish that it tries to look it up in your registry but since its not there it cant find itand returns "cannot find install path" instead.

Now what they all tried to make you do is to fill in this information subsequently. Thus perhaps wrote a file that would automatically fill in the necessary information into your registry once it is run, unfortunately he assumed a wrong address and therefore this wrong address was written into your windows address book "speak registry".

According to that the patch now returns a "cant find file xy" because it looked up the install path, found it and went there but oh shrek the files aren't there :O. That happened because you copied warcraft to a different folder than perhaps assumed.

What we now try to find out is where you put the warcraft files on your computer.

Since you said its greyed out i suppose you use vista (i read through both thread and i couldn't find you answering that question).

Though its right that the address bar under vista is greyed out, you just have to right click it and select "copy as text" and then paste it into a forum reply.

i hope that helps at last

Because he is unable to find the folder path himself, someone ( Perhaps? ) wrote a little tool that looks through all your folders until it finds the WC3 directory and then sets up the registry accordingly.
