The economy was doing incredibly well despite the various challanges, untill everyone became convinced it was going to hell. Now they're planning to close thousands of profitable stores just because they're not profitable enough, which doesn't really make any sense.

And people need to stop paying attention to Wall Street. Its not representative of the economy, yet everyone pretends it is.

The worst thing Obama could do right now is to tax the 5% he says hes planning to. What he fails to realize is that five percent are the businesses, the ones that create jobs.

Which was mostly timing luck, not Clinton's doing. And a lot of Clinton policies didn't take full effect untill after he left office (NAFTA's the prime example, also the current mortgage crisis began with Clinton policies that Bush idiotically choose to expand upon)

They're not planning to remove them anytime soon for a reason. Oh they'll bitch non stop about pandering to the rich, but they don't plan to actually change it till 2011 at earliest.

• We keep going deeper in debt to pay for "special programs" that are billed to us as an economic panacea, but are in reality a short-term kickback to specific industries to keep them happy for a couple years -- hence giving the appearance that the economy is great.
• We no longer have a free market. We have a tangled web of rules -- contradictory, outdated, sometimes outright screwing the "Average Joe" in favor of big business.
• Nobody run on a platform of getting rid of the bullshit that got passed by the last guy, which is what we need -- they always run on a platform of adding more bullshit, because that's what the businesses want.
• We're dead scared we are of letting any business die. Businesses are supposed to come and go, evolve or get replaced by a new company.
• Everything is owned by a very small number (about 6) of big businesses.
• We spend money like it's nothing, we print money like it's nothing, and as a result it has become nothing.
• The executive branch has become too powerful, and as a result stolen the spotlight. For example, we talk about the president as if he's the one setting the budget or raising/lowering taxes. (in b4 veto)

We have really, really big problems, but nobody talks about them because we're too busy quibbling about this pointless shit.
