Kinda holding off on c6 till i have some guess as to what might be causing this. The number of crashes is completley unacceptable, but I can't think of what could possibly be causing it

Re: 1.12c5 Crash Logs

#29 Post by DarnYak »

The only theory i have at the moment might be the attempted fix to entangling seed when the target is under fog of war ... i know the game can be crashy when unit vision is involved. If anyone gets a chance to test this please let me know - its late and i can't find someone to test with at this hour, and i'm exhausted anyway. (I think the one game i was in that crashed, i was eido)

The basic idea is to get entangling seed up, and then have the target run away to fog of war beforeit goes off.

It's also possible it has to do with the return bug fix, becase that seems to be the exact same error produced. I thought its suppose to crash on startup, but maybe i somehow got it to only crash later in the game (don't ask me how...), which still would indicate its some logic path that's not called very often...

Someone had a crash where it occurred 1 min into a game, I'd love to get ahold of that replay (all crash replays get saved under logs, by the way - don't bother posting unless its early in)

I might be able to get in a few games, just to test some stuff. Let ya know about any crashes, I'll post them whatnot. Goodluck finding the bug!

I'm not sure that even works with the new patch, but also #1 eota runs at a crawl in debug mode, its completley unplayable and thus untestable, #2 the debug tends to only check for memory leaks, so far as i know, #3 we can't even reliably reproduce the crash

I'll see if I can get on that Entangling Seed bug, make it crash again. Will post logs/ attempts /etc

hope this helps

btw: I've watched the replay several times myself, but I don't see what could be causing the crash. Definitely wasn't defiler or soulbinder hero. It wasn't orange's hero. It wasn't the pitlord or the death knight. it wasn't lich or the flying birdy, or the lightning demonhunter guy. i dont know!

Martyr seems by far the most common theme. Not sure if anyone's had a crash without him - or, alternatively, if they've completed a game with him. Its possible its not a bug exclusive to him, but just occurs more often with him (ex., if its related to lightning effects)

Re: 1.12c5 Crash Logs

Just posting my notes on the short games so far for reference:

Aero: Tempest
Swashy - nothing
Tyrant: Cataclysm
DW: HS
Rue: Royal Guard (Summoned at crash)
Defiler: Devouring
Martyr: Thunderstrike
Rue: Royal Guard
Tact: Banner
Fenris: Nothing
AM: Black Arrow

2nd:
DW, Aero, RK, Inf, Tact, Treant, AA, Tyrant, Martyr, IS

3rd:
DW, Aero, Garg, Lich, Shaman, Martyr, Eido, Tyrant, IS, Naga

Common elements: DW, Aero, Tyrant, Martyr
Also an odd note: Potato appeared in 1rst and 3rd games, which only lasted a minute or so of gameplay - I doubt this is it, but i'm not ruling anything out

Current suspect ranking: Martyr, Tyrant, Aero, DW
Or not a hero at all...

Seems clear: Hero deaths, portalling, computer heroes...

Hey, nice tip there Yak. I got to watch me embarrass myself with three early deaths in one game with that info.

Anyway, here are the three shorted crashes I have had.

Well that 10 min kedge game verifies its not Martyr (or, at least, not just Martyr), but still dw's and tyrants in every game (i think aero was excluded from one)

No DW or Martyr in that last one..only Tyrant. At this point it seems unlikely its a single hero, or not a hero at all.

So a day wasted working on this and i've gotten nowhere. Lovely.

Just a thought here, but I know that the random chance thing in a couple areas is borked -- Bane's Dragonfear, for instance. Perhaps the other heroes who have a chance-based spell -- or variable damage in the spell -- could be causing a leak? At the very least, something's going wrong in those calculations -- Perhaps there's something going wrong in other calculations as well?

I really don't have anything to go on that other than intuition, to be honest. However, Tyrant can generate varying numbers of crystals, Martyr uses variable distances with Streak, DW's Holy Shock hits for different amounts when talented. Aero confuses me a bit, when fitting this theory in -- Aiding Winds talent, maybe? Or the differing damage from Monsoon (<-- not sure, the thing that shoot shockwaves of air forward. Been awhile since i've played her) between Heroes and creeps.

Anyway, in looking at it, it does seem unlikely. But then again, AFAIK, Yak, you didn't touch Dragonfear other than turning it from a stun into a fear. So the calculation of odds got changed somehow. Maybe it did elsewhere, and that MIGHT turn into improperly handled variables, leaks, and crashes.
