EotA Tales- The Duel! Now Complete!

#1 Post by Fierach »

Under the sunny sky, the cries of men and beasts dying betrayed the tranquilty of the marsh, as the brackish waters ran red with blood.

In the middle of the brawl of footmen and furbolgs, a massive Acid Reaver could be seen, swinging his halberd back and forth, cutting wide swathes through the footmen. Their attemps to slay the creature was stopped as the very weapons they used melted when slashing against the acid-enhanced hide. One brave knight charged through the ranks of faltering elves with his lance pointed straight, only to be met with a caustic breathe of acid, melting through his stead, and armor, leaving him crippled on the floor in just mere moments. The helpless knight raised his sword up in a futile attempt to ward off the Dragonspawn.

Bane just stepped on him, crushing what was left of the elven warrior under his massive draconian feet. The hulking creature glared about at the retreating elven footmen and then eyed his own men. Picking out one particulary hurt furbolg, he speared it with his halberd, holding the squirming bear-thing up in the air before killing it.

"AFTER THEM!" Bane roared, and shook the corpse of the furbolg on his weapon. At this grisly sight, the rest of his army took heart and leapt after the elves voraciously, fearful to be the next killed by their vicious commander.

Sated by the carnage he wrought so far on this battlefield, the lumbering dragonspawn turned to head back to his own lines for some ale, before a elven warcry split the air, as if challenging his dominance. Turning, he eyed a glimpse of a young Rune Knight, dressed in ornate armor, wielding a large and elegantly crafted claymore leading a new detachment of troops to reinforce the falling elven lines.

Well, the day was still young. And the malicious dragonspawn deided that the sword would look great on his trophy wall, along with the elf's head. Steeling the Knight square in his sights, Bane started to charge toward him, picking up speed as his feet compacted the cobble pathway under him after every thundering step.

Alexander reached the elves, and the rabble of soldiers rallied together and fought back, firmly stemming the flood of creeps for a while longer. As the Knight ran his sword, christened Naveed, though the skull of a troll headhunter, he knew that he had a chance to turn the tide of the battle. The defences at the obelisk were not yet complete, they must hold them for a while longer.

"Captain! He is COMING!" a footman at his side yelled, blocking a slash from his own attacker and making a riposte with his blade.

He.

The fear in the soldier's voice signaled that it could only be one thing.

The Acid Reaver. Bane himself. Son of Therivox, he was a terror to all that knew him. He commanded with fear, inspired with fear, and killed with fear. Many vailant champions have fallen to his brute power in combat. But the young and talented Rune Knight Alexander hoped to change that. When the elf looked up from the corpse-strewn ruin infront of him, indeed he could see the legendary dragonspawn charge at him like a force of nature. He semed like a missle headed for his very heart. All about him, the battle raged on. "Stand firm elves! Stand STRONG!" Alexander yelled about, and cut through a furbolg in his way before raising his claymore up to his side, ready as he waited for the dreaded beast.

Bane arrived with a thunderous crash as he broke apart trees in his way, and charged into the fray with a mighty grunt, tossing about allied and enemy units alike. Reaching the enemy hero, he put al of his considerable bulk behind his charge, and knocked the elf back many meters into the ar despite fact that the Knight had braced himself. He let out a roar at the fallen soldier, his acidic maw stinking up his immediate surroundings. And all of a sudden, his world burst into stars and the son of Therivox's upper body swayed back and forth. For a moment, all he could see was at once both nothing and everything, a brillant blinding white light, and a tremendous pain in his skull, before his vision cleared up and the Reaver managed to barely see and avoid a powerful sword cut from the Knight, that was aimmed at his throat. Even so a gash appeared near the side of the dragonspawn's face, the imbued claymore having cut through his reinforced hide easily.

The angry Reaver counterattacked by swinging his own weapon up and forward in an arc, as Alexander hastily blocked it with his sword. For a few moments, there was just the grinding of metal on metal in each other's ears above the din of battle as each measured their strength. Eventually, Alexander gave, as the dragonspawn, with one great heave forced him back. Taking advantage of this, the creature reared back it's head, and unleashed a great and massive breathe of acid forth at the vulnerable elf.

Alexander managed to defend in time though, raising a powerful shield complete with mystic runes as the acid flooded all around him. Rising through the smoke from the hissing acid on the ground, the sight of their champion still alive and able to fight brought a cheer from allied footmen who were worried about the fate of their hero.

Eventually, the battle slowed to a halt, each side gathering behind their respective champions to see them duel. The two opponents circled each other warily in the makeshift arena. Truely this would be an intense fight to the finish.

Suddenly, the Rune Knight's hand twitched, and he leapt forward.

As the rune knight ran, he threw out his hands, manifesting a sacred insignia above the dragonspawn's head. Golden threads connected Bane and the insignia, draining mana at an extraordinary rate. It would serve to distract Bane as the Rune Knight launched an all-out assault, slashing at the Dragonspawn with his huge sword and adding a rune of Stunning now and then. It was all Bane could do to keep up, managing to avoid and block the more fatal hits. Great gashes opened up all over, feeding the earth with draconic blood.

The mana-draining insignia disappeared in a bright expolsion, enveloping them both. Alexander shielded himself from the blast, leaving Bane to stagger away, depleted in both health and soul.

As the Rune Knight closed in for the coup de grâce, Bane gave a heartily chuckle. He hadn't had this well a fight in ages.

"Cease your voice spawn of evil, and perish!" Alexander roared, charging forth to lop off the creature's head.

The Acid Reaver simply held up an ancient and worn out totem, and beat on it, his laugh growing each second. He had just enough mana left to attempt this.

The Rune Knight swung. He missed. Where there had been a injured hulk of a dragonspawn mere moments before, now lay nothing but air.

Alexander was confounded. What sorcery was this? Only the huge shadow at his feet tipped him off as he turned around just in time to have a couple of tons of enraged dragon crash into him with enough force to batter down even the gates of Hell.

The young rune knight was sent flying, and landed with a crunch.

"T... the.. the Zephyr Totem" he gasped out. A legendary artifact. Bane had blinked behind him and landed a devastating blow. He attempted to stand, gasping, coughing out blood, only to meet the swing of Bane's halberd straight in the chest.

Had he not been wearing armor, the elf would be killed right there and then. As it was, he was in a tremendous about of pain. Defying the shock and pain like no mortal man, Alexander opted for the final choice. He rose his sword up to the heavens and chanted his defiance. Azure and crimson shades of flame burst from his form to form strange patterns on the ground. If Bane defeated him, he'd use his ultimate technique to take him down with him. The Grand Rune, an epitome of battle magic within the elven halls, was being summoned.

Alas however, the hero was not always meant to witn. Denied simply as his chants turned into gurgling when the Reaver rammed his halberd through Alexander's gut, and lifted him squirming into the air. A triumphant roar was in his ears, along with whistling of the wind.

Wait, whistling of the wind?

From out of nowhere, Gravel, the Stone Colossus came hurtling down, and crushed them both, a Naga Sea Witch in the distance, having used the mighty power of the waters to lift the rock being into the air in a magnificent geyser.

Decent fanfic, as a long time rpler and anime fan i see everyday such things.
Youre missing some details, like the envoirment. The weather, and many other details that make a fanfic good.

I give a 3/6 the idea behind this is good, but its lacking much things.

To clarify: Dragonspawn are created from dragon's blood and various magic (and probably some other living components). Bane is therefore of Therivox's blood, but not technicly a son, although refering to him as such may or may not be valid (Therivox wouldn't call him that, everyone else probably would)

Nicely done.

Ending is totally hilarious. As for who won, I think it was obviously Bane.
