Yak Sucks at Balancing

I was going to write a long preface here but I'm tired and not done but wanted to post this work in progress because its interesting (to me, anyway). All numbers are rank 6 skills at level 30 with no items/buffs/whatever. Except the far right block, that's all 6 ranks (1-6 left to right).

I'll upload the excel file when I'm done with it.

Thats what you want us to do, yes? Calling out random stuff to buff/nerf based alone on your sheet?

Yea sure why not.

I also have a table for AoE damage only I'll be posting when I make a more complete post.

Soulstrike does 3.24x~~ damage more than caustic breath? (in its full duration) something is very wrong here or there is some ingame post math on those numbers.

Or to make it simpler it does 1.29x~~ more damage than caustic breath per sec? I don't believe it.

I've checked it like 3 times and can't find any errors. I know whenever I did the rough math in the past it was abnormally high but I didn't realize that high.

It's also an indirect response to you're Zen Archery analysis. Top DPS skill is ~61 with Zen archery doing ~110 pre-nerf in similar conditions. Will be interesting when I get the itemized data to compare.

Haven't really looked at it yet but is Inferno supposed to be Meteor Swarm?
I'm also pretty surprised with Soul Strike being that high because it doesn't feel threatening. This probably calls for a test (by Scheba hopefully =P).

Also 8) is probably the dumbest emoticon that conflicts with actual messages.

I keep rechecking it and coming up with the same result. Maybe its just so easy to run out of, maybe its so rarely taken, maybe having the damge be over 6 seconds distorts the perception of how much you're taking, maybe its always interrupted, idk.

Inferno is fire panda's 3 breath attack. If it has some other name then I'm apparently retarded.

Meteor Swarm was left out due to it being highly random.

Something still feels suspicious about Soul Strike. I got -s to say 329 damage per second, but when I actually used it against a hero, I reduced the health from 1007 to 244 and 1200 to 435, meaning ~765 damage (not factoring hero regeneration). The hero only had Dragonscale Mask 3% magic resistance.
Evocation bonus was 1.8, intelligence around 96. What I'm talking about happens around the 20 minute mark when I sit around and bombard Kuri.

I've noticed that some heroes were missing from the spreadsheet: Oracle, Storm, RK, Inf, Tact, AM, Harpy, Eido, and SM. Any reason or was it just an oversight?

Heroes only got added when their spells were added. Spells were added only when they're damage was predictable (or they're leftover from the healing data). I'll probably add the heroes (not the spells) for the item version for better verification of the averages.

Would still be nice to see how mines compare against AoE spells in terms of potential dps, or how the average/max AoO compares to normal nukes.

That AoO is max damage and not average, yes?

Explosives is higher DPS than I expected.

Yea, everything assumes absolute max damage (when reasonable to calculate).

Instead of max stat per hero you really should make max stat per skill, so that we can see every skills damage potential and not just half of them.

The max damage with item sheet only focuses on one stat. Inf gets max agi items and thus we see really high AoO values while explosives get 0 bonus damage because they scale with int. This makes it hard (read: impossible) to compared the max damage of skills when items are involved. Knowing how skills scale with bonus stats from items is important to find balance issues.

->Add max damage with item bonuses for all skills, not just the ones using the heroes mainstat, there is the potential to see another surprise like the really high and unexpected damage output of soulstrike.

The good news: I found a bug with Soulstrike. The bad news: that damage doesn't make sense from this bug (SS should always be doing ~636), so we'll need to have another test of it this next version.
