Flying heroes

Quick question here:

Is it intentional that the flying heroes (the gargoyle and harpy, sorry I don't remember their actual names) are unable to be hit by certain melee abilities? Mortal Strike is the main one that comes to mind, but I know there's at least 1 other ability the gargoyle/harpy come up as immune to b/c they are flying units (i'll test this out during the next game I play with someone who chooses gargyole if i'm swashbuckler etc)

If so, why? I'm under the impression that being able to fly (aka no unit collision with creeps) helps make these abilities a lot easier to avoid if the player is cautious.
If not, I'd like to ask that it be changed at some point in the near future.

Yes, because it is unreasonable to be able to hit a flying hero with a melee attack at ground level if it is not netted or webbed.

Demoralizing Blow can hit air.

Swashy jumps for demo blow, full animation just isn't in yet. I think lunge has the same treatment.

Rue, however, is too fat to let his horse jump.

You can lead a horse into the ranks of the undead, but you can't...

Rue could stand on his horse and then jump!

That would teach these overpowered flying heroes a lesson for sure!

I was under the impression that games weren't supposed to be realistic.. :P

I think games should be realism within reason, which I guess sounds arbitrary... However, the way I see it is there's two kinds of realisms...

For instance... Wolverine having regenerative powers from being a mutant and invincible bones due to an enhancement. Wolverine in the real world, is more than likely unrealistic, which is fine, it's fiction... Now, building on the Wolverine example... Let's say Wolverine, breaks his toe on a step, in the X-Men world, that would be unrealistic, and without any explanation to back it up, it would be just plain retarded. (Be happy I used an X-Men example, because I originally was going to use a One Piece example)

Though overall, balance is more important than realisms in a game, but here's the beautiful part, it's fiction, you can make it work. For instance, Mortal Strike could be like Rukia's Sode no Shirayuki ability (HAH, BLEACH EXAMPLE) which creates a pillar of ice where the target only needs to be in hoz range to be caught in it.

It DOES make sense that Rue wouldn't be able to reach the gargoyle for a sword blow from mortal strike...but as far as balance goes, would mortal strike help keep the gargoyle's self-healing in check? Dunno. As long as its intentional and not an oversight, woot! :D

You must grab him by his horns.

Then we have a big party.

Soo... why could swashy jump but infiltrator couldn't`? Cause last time I checked, her attack of opportunity (or whatever her giant dmg hero nuke is called) could not strike the darn gargoyle? (can't remember about harpy but should be the same). I mean she might do the attack fully from behind or even on a stunned one, but still nothing.

Once she jumps she's not exactly stealthy anymore.

Also her heavy helmet! She has too much ( useless ) armor.

Becuase if you didn't have these exceptions she would have a monopoly on hero kills and survivibilty (not that she already doesn't to some extent). And becuase, even with the flying heroes, she is still a bitch to handle using slow plight. :(

Nets. Attack of Opportunity. POW!

Harpy is my favorite kill with Infiltrator.

Gargoyle should turn into a statue during the day.

I never gave a serious answer to this, sorry. Basicly its suppose to be just part of the overall balance of a hero, with its advantages and disadvantages. Harpy has lower than normal health. Garg...is probably a bit too robust for his flying advantage, but he's suppose to be quite a bit slower. Generally heroes that are completely ineffective against flying need some sort of way to deal with them other then just being able to nuke them.

Gargoyles spells also hit for alot less. Terra at least.
