Capture Mode?

Just wondering what ever happened to this. I personally enjoyed the change of pace it involved, even if it was unpopular. Anyone play it recently?

I played it yesterday with yak, wootz and dekar to see if it still worked, centaurs are near impossible without lich.

That is weird, we played it last night and it was pretty awesome. Only took us 20 minutes because Lich is basically god mode. It would be better if the level 6 creeps were a hero because half of the useful single unit nukes are hero only.

Capture mode is when all outposts, other than the main base, are instead held by hostile creeps rather than any one side. You have to clear out the site before you can put a base on it.
"L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-op games. . ." Like L4D promised to hand us new maps, survivors, and zombies? We've seen how that works.

It's got something to do with the Fog of War setting of the map, under the Map Options page. . .I think it's 'map explored' although I could be wrong.

God I love you Cokemonkey, I was just to ask about the "capture mode".... :D

Wondering though, why is lich so good in this mode? Any other hereos/tips as well ?

The capture mode sounds fun, I'll have to check it out. Oh, and where the hell were you guys? I was at my friend's today and jumped on Bnet, but didn't see any games..... :evil:

I agree. I only played a single, just to test it out, but found it quite entertaining. I like the idea of having to work at building up bases. The only real downside I noticed was that of the AI, which, for the most part, is decent within normal games. At least they interact, and basically lvl evenly. Here, though, we had heroes ranging from 6-45(me). Kinda sad. Too, I noticed crystal was awarded at insane amounts, and your hero seems to gain new abilities faster. Gold was hard to come by early game, and I spent mine at the goblin shops for slaves and summons, those help immensely btw. This mode I think has huge potential Yak, you should run with it.

Oh, and I found that you're basically screwed if you choose any hero except a troop support or AoE'er of some kind. I found Gravel to be very deadly with HOTM, crumble, and some decent summons. And let's not forget OP'd shardlings :lol:

(there's probably several more points than the ones I list here:)

1. Some heroes work way better than others. Hero killers are useless most of the time. Someone, long ago, suggested that one could get XP from the enemy army killing creeps, too, which would give heroes like Inf and the flyers a chance and a reason to hang around the enemy army.

2. Spawn paths should be balanced. On Stormwail, the middle lane is way more important than most others. Also, it's really hard to capture some bases as none of the creeps from your base go that way. Something like free command towers or command towers from level 1 would be pretty cool. The corner above and below the base on Stormwail and the inn/rock base to which that corner sends creeps to are some of the problematic bases.

3. "Hide terrain" means that people will only hear of Capture mode by word of mouth. Which is bad. A much better way would be something like -capture prompts a vote.

4. Mercs are extremely effective in the start of the game. The team who mercs will (almost) certainly win over the one that doesn't.

5. Neutral creeps should probably be tweaked a bit. (part of the stuff is earlier in the thread)

6. (continued from 4) Early game, there's no income from gold. Pretty much the only correct way to spend all your earlygame gold is on mercs, summons, and more mercs.

7. There's no in-game explanation of capture mode, IIRC.

To point out why you're stupid and to prevent other people from thinking you have any dose of credibility in these forums. It's your post that is a waste of time and space, since you answer your own question in part 1.

You certainly did not know what Capture Mode was before this thread was made or how to get it so it wasn't just "joking". However, in addition to being stupid, you are awful at telling jokes, unless those jokes are meant to point out how stupid you are.

Capture mode is fun, I'd like to see more work put into it- however, balance regular EotA first!

To be honest I'd love to see capture mode taking on it's own map, not just being a game mode we play once or twice a year.

You mean like with all different heroes and game regions?

If not, why would you make it a new map?

Perhaps there should be a dialog before the cinematic for players to vote on game mode, including this. Then if they pick capture mode, make a different cinematic.

Downside, capture mode might come up too much in put/hostEm games..
