Re: Nix the Scroll
I thought the scroll is an intentional mechanism meant to give an advantage to experienced players. sort of like generators, tower cores and teleporting. The issue is that there's no strategy which does not begin with, "First, upgrade your scroll if you don't get to skip it for rank." Gen...

Re: Nix the Scroll
There's three things that happen with the scroll: 1. The person already knows about it - they upgrade it at the start of the game and get on the road, only a few seconds delayed. 2. The person is new to the game, but sees it, reads it, and upgrades it. By the time they finish, they're maybe 30-40 se...

Nix the Scroll
...Exactly that. Get rid of the scroll. With it, get rid of the bonus starting gold and Tiny Obelisk Tower. The race-for-the-obelisks at the beginning of Stormwail means that a team with beginners on it is severely disadvantaged unless those beginners can figure out the scroll within the first ten s...

Re: Barack Obama gets Nobel Prize
Actually, here's the story as I hear it. Part of the original criteria of the Peace Prize is to "Reduce standing armies." Today, that is commonly interpreted as "Reduce nuclear arsenals" or, "Reduce the number of nukes that countries are pointing at eachother." Now, a w...
Re: Fenris
Fenris? OP? HAH! In my experience, the only time that Fenris is a problem is if my teammates die left and right in early game - meaning, if he's fed a lot . In my experience, Fenris has a heck of a time getting gold from anything except hero kills, because he lacks real AoE. If he doesn't kill anyon...

Re: Ballistae, Catapults, and Meat Wagons
Siege + Archers is like the oldest combo of all. Few siege per lane should be harder to counter than massive siege stacking on a single lane. Because the enemy should counter with air ideally and when you have enough air vs siege towers the air will have no problem with regular archers and then go ...

Ballistae, Catapults, and Meat Wagons
First to note: I'm not 100% sure of this. It's something that I've started to notice only recently, so it might simply be the way my games have gone for the past week. That said, I encourage people to actually go out and conduct some measurable experiments before reciting what you think you know. Al...

Re: Things that go boom.
The only reason to stack Abberation that I can see is to fully heal one of your abberations if it's low on health. . . .Have you seen what +150 siege damage on the Elite Archer mobs DOES to buildings? Okay. So if you only have one siege-damage unit, I could see it happening. +50 damage per cast is ...

Re: Things that go boom.
Personally, I'm okay with just removing its ability to stack. One stack doesn't really hurt, 3 does. Maybe see how a 2 stack max works out? Then instead of one abberation exploding for a lot of damage, you'd have a bunch of abberations exploding for less damage each, but for a larger total. The onl...

Re: Devouring Plague
I'd be strongly against removing the mana drain from Devouring Plague. That's really what the spell is about to me - the health is just a bonus. Making it so it can't kill would also suck. I'd like to see it drain more as the target gets more wounded. I've always thought of diseases as preying on th...

EXPLOITABLE: 9x Arcane Generator Mana
If stuff like this isn't supposed to be posted, delete this post (and blame Dekar! :P) 1. Build three generators 2. Start upgrading them to Devastation 3. Cancel them before they finish. They'll keep their mana. 4. Start upgrading them to Devastation again. 5. Cancel them again. 6. Repeat until they...

Re: The Defiler: A Plague Upon Thee!
Some of the numbers might have changed I wrote this, too. I haven't played the Defiler in a long time. I'll see about updating it.
[First update] Trap Corpse is 45 mana, not 30.
I'll check the other numbers when I get a chance.

Re: More Generator Suggestions: Devastation
The exploit propably involves upgrading into a fast mana regeneration generator and then later downgrading it and upgrading into an arcane which starts with a good amount of mana then, due to some buggyness of the upgrade/downgrade system. D: Yes. That's the one. So there isn't a taboo against post...

More Generator Suggestions: Devastation
In my previous thread, I pointed out that given that Crystal Generators provide a direct conversion of Energy*Time into Crystal, the effects of Generators need to be at least as good (or better - There's a Crystal->Gold conversion, but you're almost always better off spending the crystal on other th...

Re: Arcane Generator Suggestions
Nice comparing the crystal and arcane gen there. So a shockwave costs 20 crystal, for a more dubious, shortterm effect. Yes. Which, admittedly, can be a more efficient crystal->gold conversion than selling crystal to the goblins, but is still very much less useful than actual hero upgrades. [Edit] ...

Re: Arcane Generator Suggestions
Mm... I think there's a theoretical disconnect between the way I see combat and the way some of the rest of you do. When two heroes fight, there are four possible outcomes: One hero is forced to retreat: The defeated hero is taken off the line of combat. They do not gain EXP for about a minute while...

Re: Arcane Generator Suggestions
My thoughts behind each of them, as they relate to your comments: Cleanse : The staff of negation has a rather long cooldown. Wands of negation cost gold. The short cooldown and low mana cost of this lets the generator remove very specific - usually hero-targetting - buffs and debuffs like Devouring...

Arcane Generator Suggestions
In another thread, there was discussion about the usefulness of Arcane Generators. My thought is that Arcane Generators don't get used for three reasons. The first is that they have to compete with Crystal Generators, and unless the generator either saves time (Replenishment) or saves money (Defense...
